(More customer reviews)I'm sure this works great as a net retractor, but I bought it for use as a safety retainer for expensive fly-rods, in situations where you might lose your footing and end up losing an $750 rod.Where this retractor really stands out from its numerous competition is that you can play out whatever amount of retainer line you want, then slide a switch that locks the amount of line that's out.This is obviously important if you are using it as I do as a rod retainer, because you wouldn't want the retractor/retainer to be under tension, as that would hamper your casting.I "converted" it to a rod retainer by simply adding some Velcro strapping to the business end of the retractor's line.
